Our kids here at MES were treated to an exciting display of some of our animal kingdom friends.
Don Richardson, curator of animals of the California Living Museum of Bakersfield (CALM) introduced a variety of slithery, feathery and furry creatures to an enthusiastic audience of kids. Some of the kids received a special treat ..Virginia and Kanan of Mr Burns first grade class were allowed to hold one of the creatures!...a King Snake! Don mentioned an interesting fact about this Snake.."the King snake has Rattlesnake for lunch"...wow! the kids couldn't believe this!
Most of the creatures that Don brought with him are indigenous to our High Desert Environment and can be readily seen roaming, crawling, slithering, or flying within our area.
All in all the kids got a much needed education about our friends in the animal kingdom. Emphasis was placed on the importance of preserving them so that generations to come can enjoy the wide variety of creatures that inhabit our world! Thank you Don for your excellent presentation!! Lo l
